BN Youth Lodge Police Report

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Permatang Pauh Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth today lodged a police report against the Opposition's election machinery who had disturbed and prevented them from putting up posters and flags in the parliamentary constituency.

Another police report was also made by a woman, who requested on being anonymous, claiming that her head was hit with an iron rod by a group of Opposition supporters after the nomination process at the Tuanku Bainun Teaching Institute, here yesterday.

Both reports were lodged separately at the Kubang Semang police station today.

Penang BN Youth chairman, Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said who made the report claimed that a group of men, believed to be Opposition supporters had disrupted the BN Youth from flying the party flags along the roads and public areas throughout Permatang Pauh since Friday night.

"Some of them disturbed our men who were climbing up the ladder and some of them threatened the safety of our men," he told reporters here today.

Mohd Zaidi said he believed that the group consisted of outsiders as their dialect differed from the locals.

He said the group had also tossed away BN and Umno flags and posters from several areas in the constituency.

"We put up the flags at night only to find them scattered on the road in the morning because the strings had been cut," said the Permatang Pauh BN Youth chief.

He said so far three of such incidents had occurred in Permatang Pauh including in Kampung Petani and Permatang Janggus.

While asking the group to stop their violent behaviour, Mohd Zaidi also reminded the BN Youth election machinery to adhere to the election regulations during the campaigning period until the polling day.

Meanwhile, the woman said: "I was on my way home when a group of men believed to be from the Opposition suddenly covered my face with the Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) flag before one of them hit my head with iron."

"After that, they just ran and left me there. I had to seek medical treatment before making the police report today," she said. -- BERNAMA
